What causes Uneven Skin Texture and Tone?

You may be noticing that your skin feels dull and lackluster, or even a bit rough, bumpy and blotchy looking.

How does skin become Uneven?

Uneven skin tone and texture is a very common concern and can have a number of causes and presentations.

This is often caused by a build up of dead skin cells at the surface of the skin. Our skin naturally sheds dead and damaged cells on a regular basis to make way to new cells, but sometimes they don’t shed like they’re supposed to. Instead they build up on the surface causing the skin to look dull or have a slightly rough feeling.

Skin can be red or blotchy in appearance for a number of reasons. Most often it is due to inflammation either locally in the skin itself, or systemically from things like hormone imbalance, food intolerances, or gut health issues. This could be caused by Rosacea or by using harsh ingredients that damage the skin barrier.

A lifetime of UV exposure without protection can often lead to skin that is discoloured and uneven. You may also experience Post-Inflammatory-Hyperpigmentation after blemishes and be prone to pigment irregularities.

This is typically the result of a build up of dead skin cells, excessive oil, and dirt or debris in the skin. Congested skin can cause rough, thick, and bumpy, blotchy skin.
